The statistics and map below are taken from:

GA Henry H. Arnold, USAAF, Report of the Commanding General of the Army Air Forces to the Secretary of War (Baltimore, MD: Schneidereith & Sons, 12 November 1945).

It is my understanding that a similar method of gauging the effectiveness of area-strikes against German cities was prepared by RAF BC.  If anybody has access to this document and would be willing to share, please contact me.

On average, XXI BC (20AF) destroyed 48.9% of Japan’s urban areas.

Keep in mind these figures include the two nuclear strikes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
